WPPI: Just to let any and all know that I am currently at WPPI, so if i don’t get to your emails and phone calls, it’s because i’m out of the office until thursday, which i will then be getting back to business! ….My lovely friend and AMAZINGLY talented designer, Karrie Pyke!! Karrie recently launched her NEW WEBSITE & BLOG! Karrie is 1 of 2 parts of the incredible duo, Posh Paperie. I convinced her that she need to put photos up of her self for her blog and site, so that’s where i came in :) Elizabeth, Karrie and myself laugh a lot together, so it makes it fun to work together, but also very difficult at the same time to actually get much done. introducing the NEW Karrie Pyke Designs!!!

HUMILITY & THINGS I ♥ THURSDAY

ON HUMILITY: Something that’s been pressing on my heart and mind a ton lately is the subject of humility. And, to be more specific, humility in my craft. It’s so amazing to get compliments, encouraging words on my blog posts and confirming statements that this is what I’m supposed to be doing. But, i’m really scared to let pride and a big head get the best of me. I think there are so many people and organizations that just take those experiences and words to help themselves fuel their “greatness” my compiling those things in their head and plowing ahead, pushing for greatness at any expense. But, in the end, what it really comes down to, is my character and my hearts intentions. Personally, my reasons for running my business is this: to bless others. It’s really great that i get to make money as i stay home with my children and have a creative, artistic outlet and all. But these things would be empty and void if there was not a bigger reason behind it all. I have no idea if anyone will get anything out of this, but it’s just been on my heart. So, to end my bad writing skills, here’s a quote that i found today on this subject:

“Humility is the only certain defense against humiliation” -unknown.

Now, onto some frivolous fun stuff :)

I ♥ Levi’s 524 Skinny Jeans! I’m in love with these inexpensive jeans that fit me perfect. I got them for $32 at macy’s…that is a steal considering they’re the pioneer in jean-making.
I ♥ Clean sheets. I know it seems like an obvious love, BUT really, it’s SUCH a relaxing smell and feeling… *sigh*
I ♥ Oxiclean Baby. This love is fresh in my mind since Emery’s cute skinny blue jeans that i got on sale at Gap Kids for $10(What?!!!) got grass stains in them :( So, i was reminded that i need more of this amazing concoction(Billy Mays, rest in peace) in my cupboards. Off to Target i go!

I wish i looked like Marianne when i was pregnant. I had to keep telling her to stick out her stomach more because she’s so tiny! I definitely can’t say the same about myself when i was 7 months, HA! Richard and Marianne were little mold-able pieces of clay that let me do whatever i wanted with them…i love that ;) And, for that, i feel like we got some GREAT images for their new little baby girl, Evangeline, to look back on one day. SIGH… Enjoy :)

My favorite of the day!R&M- Being around you two and your love was infectious. I wanted to go home that night and have another baby :) I can’t wait to see Evangeline and how adorable she will be!!! Thank you again for having me there to document a great moment in your lives.

GERBER FAMILY :: JUST BECAUSE!

This shoot and post has been a long time coming. Angela contacted me way back when, and due to sickness, holidays, schedules and rain, we were finally able to make it happen! Because of so many emails, life updates, email humor and her showing me some of her personal blogging of Finn’s AWESOME Robot birthday party, i feel like she and i have become good friends :) I love when that happens with my clients! And, I’m not quite sure if I have ever photographed a family who showed so much affection. These boys LOVE their parents and aren’t afraid to show it. I pray Emery’s that way! So, we all met up in Belmont Park, which always offers some fun color and games for the kids. And, although the rides were closed, we still managed to make it work :)

Meet Finn and Scout. They’re brothers and they love each other. – melts my heart -

So sweet.Scout : 2 yrs old, loves chocolate ice cream and his dog, patches.Not to leave Christopher & Finn out, but this my favorite of the day! LOVE this love :)

BEFORE AND AFTER WITH RECIPES!

If you are a client, this part of this blog post is her to show you the before and after product, but it is mainly for the photographer friends :)

I don’t know, maybe it’s the artist in me, but I love the artistic edit.. I love making images look fancy and fun and perfect. I have been getting several questions as to what my processing is like, so i thought I’d show some before and afters and share some action recipes! Before i list them out, I do want to say that my raw conversions make a huge difference in the outcome of my images. The images on the left are basically straight out of the camera, except for some exposure tweaks. And, i only use Totally Rad Actions to keep my look consistent and clean. I will use only one color and one black and white recipe for each wedding or shoot so that an album layout will look clean and consistent!

Mike and Stephanie’s recent shoot color mix:

Auto contrast, yin/yang for dodging and burning, pro retouch/eye bump, oh snap 30%, luxe hard 20%, get faded neutral 30%, warm it up kris 40-50%(varies), flatten, boutwell magic glasses 60%, select o pop on eyes(if needed)

Their black and white mix:

Auto contrast, de-toner, yin/yang, pro retouch if needed, Brooklyn b/w 30%, contrast 20-30%, grainstorm, flatten, boutwell magic glasses 60%, burn out 30%, flatten.

MIKE & STEPHANIE :: EXPECTING

Oh my gosh, i have the most beautiful, stylish clients ever. That was my first thought as Mike and Stephanie walked up to meet me for our shoot in downtown La Jolla Cove. Mike, Stephanie and I have worked together before and you can see their super fun shoot here. Their pros now, as you can tell below, so i was aware of their gorgeousness, but seeing them glowing over their soon-to-be daughter, Sienna, added another element for me :)

Photographer friends: i will be posting a before and after reciped post soon with these images, so stay tuned!

THINGS I ♥ THURSDAY

I ♥ Homemade iced coffee drinks. Over the past few months, Matt and i have started to have less and less time to finish our coffee in the morning. So, our solution has been to stick it in the refrigerator to keep it fresh and at night pour it on ice and it’s so good! He likes to add some chocolate syrup in it for some extra flair ;)
I ♥ Discovery. This music is some pretty awesome stuff. you can find it on itunes- of course :)
I ♥ Stillmotion videographers. Yes, they’re in Canada, but they’re amazing at what they do. i just like to watch their highlight videos(or same day edits) and imagine myself being married to Matt all over again and having them video it…SIGH.
I ♥ Facebook. OK, i know, super cheesy that i put this in here…but SERIOUSLY, it’s an amazing tool. I love seeing family, friends, clients and clients who become friends on there. And getting to share their images with their friends on my group page is so fun! i love to help people feel like the biggest deal in the universe…because, really, they are. So, come one and “amigo request” me (as my husband would call it) and let’s be FB friends!!
I ♥ Emery eating ice cream. She seriously lights up every single time she has it. even if it’s a few bites(or one huge kid cone), it doesn’t matter. Oh, and if it has sprinkles, WATCH OUT WORLD! She’ll hug anyone or anything…seriously cute stuff. The image below is of her eating a cone last week in OB. It was taken with Matt’s camera phone, which he swears is better than some professional cameras…OK…right….
